Here's a close-up view of two of our LEDs on a dime. On the left is our N1021 2x3 white LED, and on the right is our N1042 Subminiature red LED.

If its leads were formed down against the side of the LED housing (very easy to do), the Subminiature would actually have a smaller footprint than the 2x3.
